I’ve had this muffler set up in storage forever and thought I might install it on the phoenix red 1.7 car that I’m working on. Can anyone with experience using one comment on typical sound expectations from these? I’d expect it to be loud, but then perhaps the muffler section could be recreated with a quieter aftermarket can? - what would be a good choice (as this one is solid but there is some loose crap bouncing around inside)? The muffler is obviously not clocked correctly in the pict below:

Any muffler shop should be able to fix you up with a quieter muffler. Don't use a "glass pack" style muffler unless you want it to be loud. Been there, done that, and learned my lesson. I have since put on a Bursch standard muffler exhaust system, and my car is a lot more pleasant to drive. However, if you want your neighbors to know that it is you driving down the street at 2:00AM, then use a glass pack muffler!

By the way, that exhaust system looks like it came off a VW Bus (Baywindow model) from the 1970's.
