Found in the bottom of the engine bay near cylinder #3 today.
Where's it go?!

At the back of the engine case, there is a vertical portion of the case where there is an access hole to the back of the flywheel.... this is a plug for that hole.

I agree...but I thought they were only on bus engines.]

on all the type 4 engines.

i think in the case of the 411/412 the throttle linkage might have come through them at least. so it was not a plug but probably a kind of grommet.
