All,
I have been enjoying my car but have a recurring issue. Starts great Runs fine for maybe 20 min Starts to once in a while act like it turned off for just a 1/2 sec then comes back on - causing the car to lurch and the shifter to jump After about 30 or 40 min the car dies if stopped and allowed to idle. It just drops off spools down to nothing, It restarts if you hold the gas peddle all the way down. Sometime when it restarts it is weak, then it goes fine. As long as the car is in gear and moving it does not die. It will continue to do this until I get home. If I am coordinated enough I can shift into neutral, work the brake with my left foot and keep the RPMs up a bit with my left and it seems fine (no stumbling or trying to die at higher RPMs) but if I come to a light, stop and let it idle it will just idle down to nothing. Sometimes when I get home it will idle fine until I turn it off. Other times it just dies. Seems to pull great all through the range Always restarts Any ideas where to start? Thanks Peter |

First off what year car. What modifications are in the car? Engine size, cam etc. Are you running original fuel injection or carbs? If carbs what type. What did you last do to the car? Have you maintained the fuel system. Fuel filter good? Fuel pressure good?

Hmmm yeah probably should have included all that..
1974, 4cyl 2056 factory fuel injection, rebuilt distributer (Bill Fowler, it looks great) Other than being a 2056 it is stock. Did the same thing with the original distributer, new cap wires rotor.... |

D Jet can't help with d jet. but something it could be with either type is a collapsing fuel line. a tight bend somewhere. bit of a classic symptom where it runs fine for a while but after a period running the fuel line begins to collapse and strangle off the fuel supply. often will come back to life if you gas it but left to idle will just die. could be up under the fuel tank or if the pump is still at the back under the engine where the lines come into the pump. look for tight bends in the line which might look crinkled in where they are curved around a bend. |

Sounds probable. I was ever happy with the fuel lines.
Thanks I will check it out. |
