I see quite a few places are making lower valve covers for 911 that are like the 964
and use the o-ring style gasket and seem like they would be easy to keep from leaks.

But, I have never heard of anybody installing these on the 914. I don't know if the
height is such that part of it would require machining to get them off past the
suspension points.

Anybody gone this route?

Good question, I have them installed on my 3.3, looks to me you may be able to remove 10mm from the studs and it should work. My engine is not installed so no proof of concept. I was looking for pictures of the valve cover to ear to determine if I could go coil on plug. Here’s a shot of mine if that helps. Todd

Thanks. It's really hard to know from pics, maybe someone will need to be the
guinea pig and try it.

Which brand are those? I think there are several types that are similar.

Are those the regular studs? They look pretty long.

With those long studs, I don't think you could get the original covers off, let alone with these. If you want to go this route, bite the bullet and plan to drop the engine/trans when doing an oil change/valve adjustment.

The valve covers are Terrett Engineering. Yes the studs are stock but will be replaced with the 964 studs (6x25 Mpn 999-062-127.03) @ 5.41ea X 24 (2 extra) is 130 bucks, hard to swallow that amount for studs, looking elsewhere. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks for the info. They have a fighting chance of fitting or only needing machining
in a small area, they appear shorter than 930 covers. My engine is not together and
in the car, but the shortest part of the 930 covers I've previously ground down is 3/4"
high.

Note that you need 8mm studs, not 6mm, so don't buy 964 studs.

I don't know the cost of the aftermarket covers but do know I got a pair of OEM
for $60.
I had them machined for clearance as needed, opened the stud holes to 8mm
and installed studs that protrude 24 mm above the surface. Easy removal, engine
in place.
Total cost $160
Perfect for my 12 plug 3.2

We are going to be making our own studs soon. Already sent out some Porsche studs for testing so we can be sure we have them made as good as stock. It's difficult to get the right size stud, plated and in quantities for a reasonable price so we decided to get it done and have enough for us and probably sell retail as well. Thinking pre made engine kits.
