Just recently was "lucky" enough to find a set of main bearings to fit a -10/std/std crankshaft/case Type IV project. Already had a std/std/std set for another project (Kolbenschmidt brand from a WTB advertisement here in 914world.com).

However, most of the usual sources are currently out-of-stock of any brand main bearings. AAPistons.com has some silverline branded ones.

Has anyone recently found any vendors with main bearings? If so, please share, so we all can know where to source main bearings.

Thanks in advance.

I can get main bearings from our distributor but only .25 under. $180 shipped to your door. They don’t have many in stock.

Units matter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

.25mm under is the same as 0.010” under.

From what I have heard the few people (builders) that have a supply of GOOD bearings are holding on to them for customer builds so the current options are paying someone to build you a motor, or not building a motor.

We do that for 911 engine and trans parts. Not to control the market but just to make sure we have stuff on hand when we need it. You never know when the supply of a specific part will just dry up for a week or a month and pause a build. It cost thousands of dollars just to have inventory available and you certainly can’t stock everything but it is helpful to just start a build and resupply as needed.

It is something you have to do as a builder otherwise your business would be left dead in the water at times.

I did the same thing with the wideband controllers I use for injection systems when there was a supply interruption from the manufacturer. Found a reseller that had a quantity of them on the shelf and loaded up supply on my end. Yes they came at higher costs but you have to secure supply for your own long term output.

If someone is in dire need of getting a type 4 built at the moment I know sources that have bearings and can get this done. However, anyone looking to purchase bearings themselves is most like going to have to really pony up to get them to part with a set as doing so would be detrimental to their business.
