Can one of you guys that have done these give me a few pointers? How did you get that plastic light plenum on the top out? Looks like it is held inside by compression on the center metal piece below the silver button on the face. I do not want to mess it up. Thanks

I ended up making a triple gauge and have some spare gauges around. Will try to find one tomorrow

Or if you can find a non center console gauge, it has the oil temp element already

I finally got that plastic out. Scored it a thousand times with an exacto blade. I actually want an oil pressure gauge in there. I will find and old small VDO and use the guts, I have an extra fuel gauge module. That should give me a good start. I’ll need to get someone to make me a face plate, I may need to send it to an expert to have it calibrated and a plate made. Thanks for the ideas.

I just read that the fuel gauge and an oil gauge basically work the same. But the ohms are different. Has anyone here already learned this and found the correct circuit to make it work correctly. Fuel gauge is up to 75 ohms and the oil gauge is 180 ohms. Thanks

It fit nicely and holes line up. Maybe a 100 ohm resistor.

a variable resistor will give you adjustability

A potentiometer, good idea. Should make it easier to calibrate.

I contacted one of the older bigger gauge businesses to see
If they would do this for me. I need a face plate anyway…

“ Hi Paul,
You would have to replace the movement to match the oil pressure sender. We would simply build you a new pod. We can make this in 5 or 10BAR or 80 or 150PSI The pod runs $345 the sender is about $80. All components are VDO.”

I got one thing out of that note, “You would have to replace the movement to match the oil pressure sender.”
Why don’t I just replace the oil pressure sender unit to match the movement. So I did, and it is on its way. I will test it with air pressure, lay a piece of tape to mark the needle position and transfer that to my PSD file for a sticker to place over the plate.

Close enough for me.

looking good ,did you save some money there for sure?, like your approach ,I was a gauge hoarder and bought up when cosmetically challenged or non working ,were very cheap way back and got a lot of good parts.
well done cheers.
