I am the lucky new owner of this 1972 E Production 914-4 race car. The car was sold new and modified by Wester Porsche-Audi in Monterey, CA. The car was raced from 1977-1992 by Scott Brinker out of Fresno, CA. The car was then raced sparingly by Spencer Harris of Bakersfield, CA until 2018.

I am hoping some here has some SCCA finishing results, entry forms and photos of this car.

Do you have the SCCA logbooks? The back of the first book should have the original logbook owner listed. And if you go through the pages you should be able to find venues, dates, and possibly results (if the owner added them, though that seems to piss off some tech inspectors for some reason...)

If you don't have the logbook, get for me the logbook number, which should be stamped somewhere on the right main hoop. It will be a two digit number followed by four or five digits. I can scour records and/or make some contacts to see if the original-issuing region has info.

Cool car. And looks to be in impressively good condition given its age. I went through a similar exercise several years ago with a 1980s EP 914, with almost no info aside from pics of the car, and an SCCA historian was able to provide a bunch of info on the car and owner/driver. I see Greg has already responded - he'll get you in the right direction.

Struts, hubs, rotors, and wheels are unrestricted in Full Prep Production so I suspect that's the situation. They even allow non-stock calipers now.

I remember looking through this issue some years ago when I learned about the Ginther 2L 4-banger 914s in D Prod. I noticed those had 5-bolt wheels and I went through a rabbit hole of old regs trying to work it out. I couldn't find any regs earlier than the 2000s but even back then hubs were "unrestricted".

Hey, "unrestricted" is unrestricted...

A car like this is light.... and surely had a race motor... but still a small displacement 1.7

didn't need huge brakes


4 bolt brakes are very very adequate for 4cylinder power.
its the street crowd that pushes bigger brakes
and its just dead weight if you don't need it.
some of the best PCA races I've ever done were against people on stock 4 bolt brakes

braking just slows you down
racers try to brake as little as possible
4 bolt stuff is entirely adequate in an EP class

My ex-ITA racer with a WAG'd 150hp weights 1920 without me in it. The brakes on that car seem quite adequate (I use Hawk pads, usually Blue).

But I can see in context why a racer would want to change over, mostly due to the better availability, development, and options for 911 suspension, brakes, and wheels. If I were building a serious run at EP I'd probably do it.

Thanks Everyone for the replies. Since my initial post, I have been able to track the history of the car all the way back to day 1....or mile 00001.

The car was delivered new to Don Wester of Wester Porsche-Audi in Monterey, CA in January of 1972. The car was immediately handed over to chief race mechanic Peter Sandholdt for modifications to E Prod specifications. Peter was also Chief mechanic for Elliot Forbes-Robinson in the #30 Garretson prepared 914-4 race car. For the next few years the car would be used as a local time trial/autocross/special event car for Don Wester, Peter Sandholdt and the other employees of Wester Porsche. Don was insistent that his employees get to experience the joys of driving a race car on track. Of course, the car was painted in Wester's famous race colors of yellow and black.

In 1976 the car was sold to local real estate agent and weekend racer Scott Brinker. Scott proceeded to have a somewhat uneventful SCCA career with the car into the late 1990s. The car was then sold to Spencer and Tammy Harris of Bakersfield where it sat until...yesterday.

The true miracle is how original the car has remained since its modifications in 1972. It retains 100% of its original paint and pin striping. It still has its original 1.8L competition spec engine, small brakes and rotors and roll bar. A true time capsule.

The plan is to sympathetically restore the car mechanically and vintage race it for years to come. Some photos of the car below at the 1973 PCA Parade in Monterey.

Glad you discovered that.

What's the full logbook number on the rollcage? I can't read it...try spraying some dark color spray paint on it and then immediately wiping it away.

19.1731 is the number. I know 19 is cal club region
