Anyone done business with Jerry Brock from Kentucky? Seems to have some stuff that seems to good to be true. He's not here, but on another listing site.

Ask to FaceTime. Seeing stuff IRL is often a good way to separate fact from fiction.

FaceTime only works on Apple phones. Google meet works on both Android and Apple.
Run Google lens on the pictures he posts to see if they come up elsewhere.

Which board is he on and what screen name does he use?

1st rule to remember when someone is a scammer, do all their backgrounds in the pics look different? Meaning they stole pics from a million different people. Anyone who sells parts has one or two places they take pictures, they don't walk all over the their house, garage, or property and look for a dozen different places to photograph parts. Also, if everything is half price, it isn't your lucky day. Bottom line, if you have a question if someone is a scammer, you've already answered your question, if you send money after asking the question...

You could try to find someone local to verify and maybe even and buy it for and ship.

Yes, This is the first thing I look for. If the picture backgrounds/flooring are all different, it is a scam.

I’ll have to start being more consistent about my pictures. I tend to take the pics in whatever random place I’m at.
Though the dog fur in the background is probably a giveaway that it’s from my house.

Two beautiful early chrome bumpers with excellent tops for $650 shipped. I almost took he bait, went back to find him and he's gone. Jerry Brock on a FB page called 914 parts and restoration hub. Had some nice stuff, too good to be true.

All kidding aside, I hate hearing about people getting scammed and really want buyers to do their due diligence. It’s better to loose a good deal than loose good money. Pelican has gotten really bad for scammers but it’s going to be on every site and won’t be going away. Even when it’s a familiar name, make sure the money is actually going to the correct person.

Great tips for checking out scammers. I’ve been burned twice, both on ebay. Getting more cautious and better at verifying vendors. Some are pretty good at creating sophisticated adds

That Google lens is a great tip. Be careful out there.

Thinking about it the ONLY places I've had good luck with used car parts are on forums like this one.
When the part is being sold by someone who is an actual participant (posts in the normal garage area) I've not had a single issue.

The older the average forum member the better.
A Honda Forum with a bunch of 20-year-olds will be useless.
A 914 or Motorhome forum (yes, MH forums are just as useful) with a bunch of 60-year-olds is GOLDEN.

Even Mepstein kicks ass! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)
