The other day I noticed my headlights were out of adjustment. The up/down headlight adjuster plastic block had stripped out from 55 years of vibration. I used a couple of M5 nuts behind the plastic block to get the adjustment to hold, but that requires removing the shroud and eyelid to get at them for any future adjustments. I wanted a better fix.
Stripped plastic block. I drilled it to let it slide on the adjusting screw when I used the M5 nuts. Went Ace Hardware today and bought these plastic shims, $3. The hole is exactly the correct size for the adjustment screw to thread into snugly, without tapping it. Thickness is perfect, too. It just takes one cut with a coping saw to make a new adjuster, you don't need to trim the sides. It was a 10 minute fix, if yours is stripped, give it a try. |
