Just got this 914-6 GT. Horn wasn’t working. It’s a 914 steering wheel with a 911 hockey puck horn button. Pulled off the puck and the horn wire was wrapped in electrical tape. Think I figured out it’s because the base plate and spring plate aren’t isolated from each other. The pin was broken off the base plate. Bought a new base plate and a washer kit. Can’t figure out where the “top hat” shaped plugs go ( I now have six). Do they go in the base plate, the spring plate, or both? And in which direction? I’m truly lost and need kindergarten level instructions here. Thanks!

Finally got my horn working but can’t get the puck aligned correctly. I’m guessing that rotating the three pronged spring might be the answer, but at the same time it’s symmetrical, so I’m wonder if that’s the answer. BTW the top of the Porsche crest is at 11:30… almost perfectly upright.

Ok… got that figured out. Horn is working.

There will be six tabs on the chrome trim ring ,remove some of clamping pressure on them ,refit to the wheel in the correct location then turn the leather insert to the exact location .
Remove it and reclamp the six tabs back again ,job done .

In an effort to keep all discussion on one thread.

It looks to me like the hockey puck is aligned properly to the wheel.

The wheel steering wheel as a whole is off center. Is that your picture or Porchetub’s.

Am I missing something? Angle of the photo is hard to tell.

I understand and appreciate, but the button lined up until I removed and reinstalled the guts of the horn button. Maybe ( new rubber piece too) I’m just not turning it forcefully enough. Lemme give it a shot. I can tell it’s not tightly seated.

Everything is fine now. The wire was getting grabbed I think, plus this old fart (73) had to use more strength than he thinks he has, to get that last inch to lock her in.

Some of them go on pretty tight and one of the round rubber lid removers will help.
