Just wanted to say that installing the targa seals, main and all was maybe the worst job that I have had to do on this car. That tested my patience and hand strength like no other.

Aftermarket from 914rubber. Good quality but maybe a hair too wide, it went in after a lot of silicone spray and elbow grease.

It’s very hard doing it alone. I had a helper hold the top still while I slid the seal: Glycerin is a must to lube the rubber….

It's definitely not the most fun. Here are a few tricks that work for me...

– Push the seal into a-pillar tracks. Don't try to slide them...that's way harder.

– Use liquid soap or glycerin...stays slippery longer than silicone spray

– Get some sturdy plastic trim tools to push the seal in...easier on your hands and no chance of scratching the paint when it pops out!

Here's a video I made for anyone else attempting this.

A mistake I made when replacing the targa seals was cutting to fit right after install ,because they are a bit longer than the original . I was looking at my passenger side and I guess I stretched it so much while pulling on it that it shrunk after I cut it ,now I need to order a new set . I agree it was not a fun job to do and I don't look forward to redoing it again. I used 914 Rubber seals .

Yep, I like to think of myself as a very patient person, and that main targa seal really, really, pushed me.

I have two nos Porsche seals tucked away in my stash. I don’t know if they make it easier but hopefully I’ll find out once the car goes into paint. The original 914rubber seals didn’t fit very well but I think Mark reconfigured the corners.

Yes this ^ .. try to compress them manually before cutting. There was some stretch in mine (from the incorrect mounting technique of pushing them into/thru the tracks) that got exaggerated after I made my cuts. I had to do the horizonal targa seals over because of it... used Ian's method the second time for less frustration too.

Well I painted the targa and put new seals everywhere and tried to not stretch them into place so fingers crossed that after some hours in the sun and a little time, they don't shrink all to much. Its all in, and the tops back installed which was hard with the new seals being much larger than the old worn out ones. I will say it looks much much better with some new paint and fresh seals.

Doing some clay bar on the car along with polishing and waxing since its been sitting outside for about 10 years in a carport while I was at school and had no interest in my 6 swap. Just clay alone has been a massive time sink, but the results are extremely worth!

Plan on not doing much for the next couple days with your hands.

Seriously, it can really beat on them.

Yeap I found it to be a brutal experience! My 914rubber replacement didn’t fit in the corners as well as the original. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
