I have an extra engine lid that has one of these attached. What purpose do they serve and do I need them?Attached Image

Early model device that stops the trunk lid from contacting the engine lid I believe.

So these were used on early cars before they installed rain trays?

My 72 had that and a raintray. That piece in my engine compartment truned into a plastic like substance. Brittle, I broke mine with out a problem

Or on a -6. The torsion springs on the engine lid don't hold it fully open (or at least mine never have).

Without it, if the engine lid is open and I open the rear trunk, it will contact the engine lid. Especially the round latch bar, putting a very nice scratch on the trunk lid.

Most likely a very quick design 'improvement' after customer complaints.

Used on up to 73 tgat I have personally seen making these for those tgat need them. If you have a 73 or earlier and not one of these, you probabbly have ir snapped off and still have hardware.

My car didn't have one of these. It's difficult to tell from the PET diagram, but does this deck lid stopper sandwich between the engine lid and the rain tray and get affixed using the left side Phillips head screw that holds the rain tray on? If not, where does it attach? If so, wouldn't that eliminate the needs for the spacer yet PET shows 2 per car... Unfortunately my deck lid is in storage a couple of hours away so I can't check it for other attachment points. Also, does anyone have a pic of the steel bracket that supports the rubber stopper?

This could probably be 3D printed with a semi-flexible material for a few bucks...

914 rubber has them but not the steel brace and hardware. I haven’t been able to find a good depiction of exactly how it attaches and what the bracket looks like.

Seems like something that could be 3D printed along with the support bracket fairly easily.
